The platform helped build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and transparency, encouraging all team members to participate actively in the delivery management process and improve operational efficiency.
McCownGordon aims to be thought leaders in the industry by providing continuous insight, sharing the latest trends and communicating updates in technology, safety standard and regulations to their clients. Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, they are an employee-owned construction company, and strive to deliver the best building experience and enhance the journey for their associates, clients, partners, and community.
McCownGordon demonstrated their industry leadership by empowering the project team to drive digital transformation from the field up on a recent project involving the construction of a four-story, 80,000 square foot office facility. The project’s site access was limited to only one way in and one way out, which was further congested by an adjacent project development whose access point was also inconveniently at the project’s construction entrance. This meant the project team had to work around sections of their only access road being torn up, closed, and reconstructed during the course of their project due to the adjacent development efforts.
John Patrick, Superintendent at McCownGordon saw these logistical challenges as an opportunity for continuous improvement, and a way to generate efficiency in the field using technology. Exposed to PLOT from another project team, Jon spearheaded implementing the solution as a way to reduce the process inefficiencies of the traditional whiteboard and phone calls. Since using PLOT, he now gets an easy alert for all things logistics and delivery related:
“My favorite thing about it is that added piece of heads up. I can click on the app and see exactly what I have coming in that day – it’s a one-stop-shop that’s not my job trailer.” – John Patrick| Superintendent, McCownGordon
From the Superintendent’s perspective, it makes it easy to coordinate all logistics activities, from crane picks, flaggers, and more all from the easy access of a phone or tablet. PLOT’s impact, however, goes beyond just the technical features. The adoption of PLOT on the project led to a noticeable culture shift on the jobsite. While some subcontractors were initially reluctant to use the new technology, McCownGordon’s hands-on and team-oriented approach to training and support encouraged greater engagement. The platform helped build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and transparency, encouraging all team members to participate actively in the delivery management process and improve operational efficiency.
By addressing challenges related to delivery management, communication, and navigation, PLOT significantly improved the project's efficiency. With its simplicity, ease of use, and positive impact on the project's success, PLOT demonstrated its potential as an invaluable tool in the construction industry in operations, and also as a tool to facilitate innovation throughout the broader team culture.
